Papua New Guinea intelligence reported high-altitude, high-speed aircraft with contrails reaching approximately 100,000 feet over the country on January 24, 1985, altitudes at which conventional contrails cannot form.
The U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby confirmed no U.S. aircraft were operating in PNG airspace that night. Yet the Air Niugini pilot detected them on airborne radar traveling south to north at high speed and altitude.
