civilian-claim1991· Mexico City, Mexico
During the July 11, 1991 total solar eclipse over Mexico City, at least 17 independent video recordings captured a stationary, silvery disc-shaped object hovering in daylight while millions watched the eclipse from rooftops and streets. Journalist Guillermo Arreguin's footage was broadcast on national television, triggering a wave of additional witness submissions.
Televisa journalist Jaime Maussan broadcast the Arreguin footage on primetime television and received over 17 additional independently shot videos from different neighborhoods of Mexico City, each showing the same object at the same time. The 1991 eclipse sighting is widely credited with triggering an ongoing Mexican UFO reporting wave. Skeptical analysts proposed the planet Venus as one explanation; however, multiple simultaneous videos from different urban vantage points remain difficult to reconcile with Venus.
