CIA briefing notes for Walter N. Elder summarize November 1964 radar and pilot observations of unidentified high-speed objects near Puerto Rico, including USS Gyatt radar tracking and an F-8 Crusader pilot's visual estimate.
The briefing describes two November 1964 events near Puerto Rico involving high-speed objects reported by U.S. military systems and aircraft. On November 19, USS Gyatt tracked an object on radar for 21 minutes, while a Crusader pilot reported seeing a delta-shaped object about the size of a jet fighter in good visibility and full moonlight. On November 24, Atlantic Fleet Weapons Range systems again held a high-speed, high-altitude target that pulled away from another Crusader flying Mach .99 at 45,000 feet. The notes state ONI had no further information and had been asked to notify CIA of similar future incidents.
