On July 15, 2022, Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, in coordination with the Director of National Intelligence, established the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) under authority of the FY2022 National Defense Authorization Act. AARO replaces the Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group (AOIMSG) and expands the government's anomaly-resolution mandate from airspace to all operating domains, including space, subsurface, and transmedium.
