In January 2023, the ODNI published its 2022 Annual Report on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, disclosing that the UAP database had grown to 510 total reports as of August 2022, up from 144 in the June 2021 assessment, with the majority originating from Navy and Air Force aviators during operational duties.
The report noted that 247 new reports were received between March 2021 and August 2022, plus 119 cases that were retroactively identified or transferred. The report cited the transition to AARO as expanding detection and reporting capabilities across the DoD and Intelligence Community.
